2011 OWLE AWARD WINNERS


On Friday May 6th, 2011 the Ontario Women in Law Enforcement hosted the 13th annual awards ceremony in Mississauga, Ontario.

  • Award of Valour – Provincial Constable Kathryn Moyer , Ontario Provincial Police
  • Excellence in Performance – Florence Stewart, Peel Regional Police Service
  • Leadership – Detective Constable Shari Mackay, Toronto Police Service
  • Mentoring – Inspector Kim Whyte, Peel Regional Police Service
  • Civilian Award of Achievement – Nancy Speck, Niagara Regional Police Service
  • Community Service – Goldie Cash and Nancy Kemp, Halton Regional Police Service
  • Team Endeavours – S/Sgt Jim Darbyshire, Sergeant Jenny Newton, Detective Constable Lori Haggett, Court Supervisor Peter Ross, Elaine Darling, PC Jason Rennie, PC David Rioux, Toronto Police Service
Law Enforcement Professional of the Year – Provincial Constable Michelle Haggerty, Ontario Provincial Police

The winners of the OWLE awards were forwarded to the International Association of Women Police and it was announced at the banquet that Nancy Speck, Niagara Regional Police Service has been selected by the IAWP to receive the Civilian Achievement Award and Detective Constable Shari Mackay, Toronto Police Service has been selected to receive the Leadership Award at the upcoming IAWP 49th annual conference in Lexington, Kentucky in August, 2011.

Heritage Award for Lifetime Achievement – Chief (Ret’d) Robin Jones, Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service

Presidential Award – Mayor Hazel McCallion

Presidential Award – David Mitchell, Area Manager, Probation and Parole

Laurie Hawkins Scholarship Award Winners – Hannah Collins, Sean Newton

This year the nominees came from the following services; Belleville Police Service, Halton Regional Police Service, Niagara Regional Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police, Peel Regional Police Service, Toronto Police Service, Windsor Police Service and York Regional Police Service.

OWLE also recognizes civilian members and officers who have dedicated 25, 30, 35 and 40 years of service. This year OWLE recognized 162 recipients including members from: Barrie Police Service, Belleville Police Service, Chatham-Kent Police Service, Cornwall Community Police Service, Durham Regional Police Service, Halton Regional Police Service, Hamilton Police Service, London Police Service, Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Niagara Regional Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police, Ottawa Police Service, Peel Regional Police Service, Peterborough-Lakefield Police Service, R.C.M.P. Toronto Police Service, Waterloo Regional Police Service, Woodstock Police Service and York Regional Police Service.
