Laurie Hawkins Scholarship

In 2009, the Ontario Women in Law Enforcement implemented a scholarship fund in the memory of Laurie Hawkins. Constable Hawkins was a 20 year veteran with the Ontario Provincial Police. During her career, Laurie was recognized for her dedication to her community, and in 2006 received the OWLE Award for Community Service. On December 1st 2008, Laurie, her husband and their two children were found deceased from carbon monoxide poisoning in their Woodstock home. We will continue to honour the memory of Constable Laurie Hawkins through the dedicated scholarship fund which is presented at the Annual OWLE Awards Banquet.

There are 3 scholarships available to students who have completed their first year of post secondary education and are returning for a second or subsequent year.

One Honorary Award for $1000 is awarded to a person who is enrolled on a part time or full time basis at an Accredited Educational Institute. You must be a active OWLE member in good standing; associate OWLE member in good standing; student OWLE member in good standing or 5yr. OWLE member in good standing.

There are also 2 x General Awards for $500 each that are available to persons enrolled on a full time basis at an Accredited Educational Institute. Eligible applicants include: Children of OWLE members who are in good standing as Active, Associate, Student or 5 yr members.

Deadline for submissions: APRIL 1st, 2017.

Please join us in celebrating OWLE's 20th Anniversary!

OWLE in Partnership with OPC will be hosting an unveiling of the 100 year timeline of Women in Policing in the Province of Ontario and have invited women who are featured on the timeline to join us along with Senator Gwen Boniface and Canada’s first female Chief of Police, Lenna Bradburn! This event will surely be one of the highlights in the celebration of International Women’s week!
